Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, absolutely. The tilting louvres of the ALYA CORNELS® Elite series — like all systems within the CORNELS Elite range — are 100% watertight when closed. Rainwater is efficiently drained via the integrated gutters and downpipes concealed within the columns. CORNELS closed louvres are highly reliable in ensuring a fully watertight roof. When the walls are also enclosed with CORNELS glass systems, the entire garden room remains comfortably dry and sheltered in all weather conditions.
CORNELS offers a wide range of options. The entire Elite series is fully bespoke and tailored to your project. Available options include integrated LED lighting, all RAL colours (including seaside coating), various surface finishes and Somfy io control for operation via app or remote control.
The dimensions are virtually unlimited thanks to the modular design of our canopies. The ALYA tilting louvred roof is available in modules with maximum dimensions of up to 813 cm projection × 450 cm width. The modules can be linked together seamlessly, including combinations with other products from the CORNELS Elite series and, of course, with CORNELS glass wall systems.
With the ALYA CORNELS® Elite series, CORNELS offers guaranteed resistance up to wind force 12 Beaufort. The system has also been tested for snow loads of up to 339 kg/m², depending on the dimensions of the structure.
Our terrace canopies are, unless stated otherwise, manufactured from aluminium. The frame is finished with a low-maintenance, protective powder coating. To keep the canopy in good condition, we recommend cleaning the structure two to three times a year. Clean the posts, gutters and louvres using lukewarm water, a mild cleaning agent and a soft cloth. Avoid the use of aggressive cleaning products, abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
We recommend cleaning the rails and gutters of the louvred roof on a quarterly basis. For locations near the coast or in other areas with a high presence of wind-blown sand, we advise cleaning the rails and gutters weekly. Regular maintenance extends the lifespan of the canopy and helps prevent noise such as squeaking or creaking caused by sand abrasion.
If your canopy is installed in a tree-rich environment, it is advisable to clean the gutters regularly to prevent blockage of the rainwater drainage system. Additional maintenance is particularly recommended during periods when leaves are falling.
How to clean? Rinse the rails and gutters thoroughly with water using a garden hose. For dry sand, a compressed air blower can be used. After cleaning, apply a grease-free PTFE (Teflon) or silicone spray. If the canopy is installed near the coast, use a dry lubricant.
The louvres can be cleaned on the inside using a soft cloth or sponge and a mild cleaning agent. The outside of the louvres can be cleaned with a soft washing brush with a telescopic handle, or by tilting the louvres and cleaning them from below using a soft cloth or sponge and a mild cleaning agent.
Our louvred roofs are extremely robust and highly resistant to heavy loads, including substantial snowfall. Before opening the roof, always check whether frost has affected the system.
If the louvres are frozen, first heat the space to allow them to thaw before opening the roof. This helps prevent damage to the mechanism and ensures safe operation.
