Poker Edge, Gain An Advantage

It's obvious that everyone wants to gain an advantage or poker edge in any card game, especially if it's a high stakes poker game. Well, here are some useful tips to help you gain that extra edge in any poker game, online or offline.

  • 1. Fast play high pairs and strong hands before the flop. Well, this strategy puts more money into the pot early on and encourages weak hands that could get a lucky flop and beat you to fold which is a favorable thing for you.
  • 2. Check the chips of all raising players. Those players that are closed to all-in often rush the betting just to get all their chips in a win-or-lose-all desperate last hand. This can use this situation to your advantage.
  • 3. Don't play too many hands. When you play too many hands, it tells the other players that you are a beginner. This gives more advanced players to figure out what types of hands you play. You should fold when you have a bad hand in spite of how tempting it may be to continue playing.
  • 4. Watch that board! When you are aware of the board, you can read the betting going on around you and take advantage of that information. Newer poker players usually focus more on their own hands rather than watch the board.
  • 5. Be unpredictable. This means that you can let yourself get caught bluffing once in a while, vary your play, and not be predictable. This gives you a better chance of winning pots that you don't deserve when your real bluff works. Keep your opponents guessing and off guard as much as possible.
  • 6. Study your opponents. The game is not just in the cards, but also in the mannerisms, idiosyncracies, and playing patterns of your opponents. Do they bluff? Can they be bluffed? Do they have any tells (mannerisms that giveaway their intentions, situation, etc.). All of this is vital information for any serious poker player.

Well, good luck on all your future poker games.
